C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism)
In 2007, under the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, the Government of Canada announced $11.6 million in funding to strengthen the PIP program in order to achieve mutual recognition and compatibility with the U.S. Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.
C-TPAT is the US Equivalent of PIP. Essentially if you have been validated on either program the effort to participate in the other is minimized and recognized by both governments.
Most of these requirements are common sense business practices to secure your facilities, protect inventory and employees.
The application process is straight forward and can usually be done in less than a week.
You do not have to be Fort Knox to participate in this program.
According to US Customs and Border Protection, a C-TPAT participating company is 4-6 times less likely to incur a security or compliance examination.
